Spain continues to lead in organic farming in Europe as a producer. In 2011, for the fourth consecutive year, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, our country is at the top of the EU in number of hectares devoted to organic farming with a total of 1,845. 039 hectares, 11.76% more than the previous year. Almost all regional governments show increases in the area devoted to this type of agriculture. The number of operators achieved the figure of 32,837 in 2011, an increase of 18.23% over the previous year. In farming, the annual rise of 20.97% has been, reaching the 6074 farm. And as for industrial activities, during 2011, the number grew until 3697, representing an increase of 11.12% over the previous year.
