Biopesticides, plants that cure plants.
Each day, the use of chemical pesticides in order to control plagues and crop illnesses due to its negative affect on human beings and our environment is being questioned. Biopesticides are an efficient and natural alternative to chemical methods.
What are they?
Many substances produced by plants have been generated by the species evolution in order to adapt to the environment and have more favourable possibilities to exist. Some of these molecules synthesized by plants increase its strength against stressful situations or it helps them repel or eliminate certain pathogenic agents which aim at hurting it. They can help the plant´s defense mechanism, reinforcing the cellular wall, or inhibiting substances of the pathogenic agents, above all, in stressful conditions.
In the Mediterranean area we have many plants that we can use with this aim, some of them have been introduced and others are autochthonous. They therefore represent a solution to maintain plagues at bay without hurting the plant, the soil, or any favourable organisms.
